Living in Lower and Upper Sackville

By Tom Moore, Halifax REALTOR® with eXp Realty

Sackville is one of HRM's best-value communities. Lower Sackville is a fast-growing suburban hub with the Sackville Sports Stadium, the Bedford-Sackville Connector Greenway and quick access to Highways 101 and 102. Upper Sackville has a similar commuter feel with generally larger lots.

Here's the honest picture: what you get, what you give up and what homes really cost.

Best for: maximum space for your budget, with highway access into the city.

The pros and cons

Pro: more home for your money. Sackville is one of the most affordable places in HRM to get a detached home with a yard.

Pro: amenities and trails. The Sports Stadium, the Connector Greenway, shopping on Sackville Drive and Sackville High School (English and French immersion) are all close.

Con: the commute. Expect roughly 30 to 40 minutes into downtown Halifax at busy times. Test-drive it before you buy.

Con: more suburban. It's practical rather than scenic, and most daily life happens by car.

What homes cost in Sackville

As a general guide (2026), many Sackville homes sell in roughly the $380,000 to $520,000 range, with larger homes and bigger Upper Sackville lots going higher.

That value is why I often suggest Sackville to buyers who want space without stretching their budget. For HRM-wide numbers, see my Halifax market hub.
